Common Causes of Pain:
Pain after breast surgery - Postural issues such
as forwardly rotated shoulder and a forward head positioning can
lead to problems such as pain in the chest wall and upper back as
well as the inability to lift the arms up over head. These can be
attributed to tight chest muscles and weak muscle in-between the
shoulder blades. Pain in the surgical scar can occur secondary to
improper alignment of scar tissue formation or tightness of the
scar tissue. These can also contribute to the lack of ability to
raise the arm in different positions.

1. How to reduce scarring. If scar is completely
healed, apply a
small amount of lotion to the area and gently rub across the
scar applying enough pressure to achieve a low level of
discomfort for 5-10 minutes, 2-3 times a day. Scar must be
completely healed prior to beginning.
2. Use your affected arm as normally as possible
to maintain mobility.
Raise your arm up over your head and out to the
side of your body.
3. Sit in an upright posture with your shoulder
blades slightly
pinched together and your head placed in line with the
tip of your shoulder. Learn the proper techniques by calling
